KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE... #snowphotosReally hated to have the sun go down and usher in the ending to an amazing day of riding in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula!

It was truly a T-shirt kind of day to ride under bluebird skies with temperatures well into the 50s! (Or even for some - just a pair of shorts out on the beach 😂 Dave) Trails were in amazing shape with very few bare or wet spots. The bare spots were mainly found on the top of the trail crossing Brockway Mountain. Trail 3 from Toivola to Copper Harbor, trail 134, 135, 124, 130 and 151 were in great late season condition for the majority of the day. I did not personally ride trail 132 but a few groups that did said it was still in decent shape even though grooming was discontinued early last week on that trail.

By late afternoon/early evening trail 3 south from the intersection with trail 134 was pretty bumpy, which was to be expected with the warm temps and amount of traffic. There was not any grooming last night due to how warm it was.

I was able to speak to the south end trail boss this morning and he stated that trail 17, trail 3 from Houghton to Toivola and back to Dollar Bay would be groomed tonight. I was not able to get in touch with the north end trail boss, but grooming should resume now that temperatures have dropped below freezing again. The Dreamland trails maintained by the Valley Sno Drifters have discontinued grooming.

Today the trails are pretty hard packed and can be icy in areas due to the temperatures dropping last night after the warm-up yesterday. This can present a problem for some sleds to be able to stay cooled.

Roads and parking lots are pretty much bare in towns and at establishments. Trail 124 from Phoenix/Vansville to Gay does not require much road riding and there is fuel at each location. Lac la Belle And Copper Harbor also offer fuel, however both locations require a good amount road riding.

I had friends staying at The Trailside Lodge, right on trail 17 and I can highly recommend this location for lodging, especially late season.

I have shared some of my photos and some that other riders were so kind to share with the page, along with their reports of riding yesterday!

If you are riding today we would love to see some of your photos and hear your reports!

GRAND MARAIS UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. - Ran the East run Saturday, trail 8 towards pine stump..... With the abundant sunshine, warm temperature and lots of traffic..... this definitely equals a soft, ripped up trail. We greatly appreciate the riders that have come and enjoyed our trails and shared their experience with us as well everyone that donated to our groomer drivers, gave them a thumbs up or stoped and gave them snacks. Most of all thank you to all our volunteers that make this program happen, we couldn’t do it without them! See ya’ll in December!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails - Well, the trail is over all in great shape. With the exception of a few water holes, and tonight I found a sink hole. I fear we won't be able to groom much longer. Temps will be warm again this coming week. The sink hole wasn't there when I first went through, and it was the weight of the tractor that broke it free. It was a 2' deep hole. I was able to fill it in, however there was water in the bottom and it most likely won't hold. This will most likely be the last weekend of smooth trails from us.... #snowphotosWell, the trail is over all in great shape. With the exception of a few water holes, and tonight I found a sink hole. MUNISING AREA UPDATE... #snowphotosPERFECT TIMING - OUR LUCKY DAY!
Made a phone call first thing this morning about a groomer to cover the Bully being down for the season. A loaner Tucker from Track Incorporated was just picked up from Seney and the truck was about to be passing by our place. Quick coordination with our DNR Field Contact, Lansing and the S.A.W. Committee and here we are grooming 6 hours later. Pisten Bully will not be pulled out on a sled until Thursday so please slow down and ride with caution just east of Trail 442 (see map). Yes. I'm pretty shocked at the amount of people out tonight. I called Ryan off because i wasworried about him on the roads. He lives a long way away. We're getting kinda spanked right now because of that decision.

Thanks Chad. I think youre right there with the 8-10. We will be ready for you tomorrow.

That's awesome jason!!

JUST got back from Larry's Seven-Ski Inn an the roads are TERRIBLE. IF u do not have to go out I wouldn't go. Phone rang off hook from down staters asking about snow conditions. Had a group of 3 trailers that parked at Larry's who were from Ohio an they said the riding was pretty good. Had 2 more groups who came over from Gaylord an said trails were fine. SO with that being said YES it is still snowing out an a blowing. Bring it!!!!

Pretty to look at, I'm outside right now ,nice breeze going, so long have to go back in and turn ac down before it gets to chilly in there yuk yuk yuk globe AZ

Just sat down here! We left S. Higgins, N to Fredrick then Ostego, back brown thru Lakes of N. & it's been all good!

We still have snow coming down an we are at 10in here an lots wind an whiteouts in the charleviox area

Good morning Kruppers!
Well a foot of new snow here sure
Put a bigger smile on Kruppys face!
And just a bit north of us picked up 15+ inches!
People are scurrying to get that last ride in!
You know who you are! Ha ha
I was loosing hope to be able to carve through the beautiful UP woods one more time this year!
Today is that day!
Sadly I'm forced to work today and this weekend and won't be sharing any pics! I do have friends out riding and maybe I can share their pics later!
Temps are below freezing for now so at lease it won't all melt like some spring snows!
So if your a snow lover and have been suffering that end of season depression that a lot of us get! There is time! I know some of Kruppys fans have detailed the sleds and packed away in the trailer for the summer but know- it's go time! And they are on their way up here!
See ya soon!

Lots of downed trees due to the heavy wet snow. Any low spot that can collect water, has it! Picture from trail 120, Freda loop. Use caution, snow has settled a lot, the foot in Twin Lakes is down to about 7 inches as of this morning.

Well Kruppers its been a weird season!
temps have been late Aprilish! its just 34 above out right now
but the snows have taken a big hit! Groomers are asleep till/if it cools off!
looks like the next couple nights it will be in the mid twenties and maybe can go back out but things are looking a bit grim!
John Dee's extended forecast is giving little to no hope and temps heading back to 50's Friday and beyond!
It goes like this:

for Northern Houghton & all of Keweenaw County

.:: March 9, 2016 ::.
TODAY...CLOUDY WITH LIGHT RAIN AND DRIZZLE. TEMPS STEADY IN THE LOW 30'S. NORTH WINDS 5 TO 15 MPH.

TONIGHT...MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOW 26. LIGHT WINDS.

TOMORROW...PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGHS 38. LIGHT WINDS BECOMING NORTHWEST 5 TO 10 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

TOMORROW NIGHT...CLEAR. LOW 24.

FRIDAY...MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH 50. SOUTHWEST WINDS 5 TO 10 MPH.

SATURDAY...MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH 55.

SUNDAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY, WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGH 48.

MONDAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS. HIGH AROUND 47.

TUESDAY...MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH AROUND 52.
Its just the first week of March so its possible we could get some big bombs yet! ''I like to keep my glass half full because I love to ride!"
Looks like fire roads might be the best riding for now!
Waterfalls should be something to see too!
ya Kruppy is a bit depressed too! And he has a giant fly tormenting him!
Keep your chins up snow lovers!
I wish I was reporting brand new groomer ribbons for you all!
Have a great night!

North Store Follow Me Outfitters

Well we lost some snow but that snow dance I did last night might have worked. We have a good 3" of snow since this morning and still coming down. The week looking good to for snow. Thanks for a great winter so far, it great see all you snow junkies. Let's pray for a great March. Yooper Out!!!! Hey check this out...Give generously, for your gifts will return to you later. Blue Sky Rentals

Big group going out today from Scarlett Machinery. Trails are in great shape. Groomers are out and keeping the trails safe and enjoyable for everyone. Colder temps for the weekend should make for great riding with more snow in the forecast. We have a few snowmobiles left this weekend for rent so get out and enjoy the trails! Www.bluesky-tvc.com ...
