SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association - Beautiful day out there today to get the gates closed. Steve and Pete were out and here’s what Steve had to say-
“Pete and I left Ashmun Bay this morning on our side by sides and went and closed gates.
We made it to every gate on our 103 mile trail system.
We were able to close all the gates but two. Snow was still deep in places. Pete and a round nose shovel moved a lot of snow today. We need some warm weather to help us with the last ones.
Our crew is ready to start brushing and signing as soon as weather allows. The last two weeks were dedicated to repairing our equipment and organizing our trailer.
The last few weeks of signing last year was brutal. We broke the frame on our trailer and we were in water everywhere we went. The trailer is a 1962 model single snowmobile trailer that was sold by Sears. At 60 years old, I'm hoping the trailer still has lots of trail miles left in it.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone enjoy parts of our trail system on wheeled vehicles during this snowmobile off season.
I want to thank Chippewa County SORVA for the time and effort they put into improving Trail C (Trail 8 in the winter) last summer.
The stretch from 5 Mile Rd to 6 Mile Rd is in great shape this spring. The water was flowing in the new ditches and there is no longer a 3 to 4 foot water hole there. It was a big project and will benefit us for many years moving forward.
Steve Lawson”

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA - TRAIL REPORT April 1, 2022
ORV Season Open – Conditions Favor Sledding!
Trail Reports will be in an ORV format which now include our maintaining of Trail “C” (8, 7, 418, 417) from Shingleton all the way to Marquette. The ORV Season is officially open but there is still plenty of snow to ride your sleds. We had another few inches of fresh wet snow yesterday as we put away the groomers. For sledding Main Trail conditions are fair to good with a few water holes. Our final groom was panning from Wetmore back to our groomer barn in Shingleton yesterday. There is very dirty, gravely snow along roadways near towns. A majority of our Trail System is on State and Federal Land and still rideable for sleds, just note that Trails will begin to be shared with ORV’s. As far as ORV riding we still have lots of snow with large soft spots, slush and water holes in areas. For us it is time to get tires on the club owned Deere and prepare for upcoming brushing and grading. Ride to the Right and Stay Tuned for updates!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports - I have to say that today was probably THE hardest “official” ending to a season I have ever personally experienced!
Riding home tonight from a delicious meal at the The Mariner North, after an absolutely perfect day of riding and experiencing this view as we rounded a corner was breathtaking! Most of the day was cloudy, windy and snowing, so this view was a surprise!
It’s hard to say it’s “over” when the trails are still in good condition and there is a ton of snow! Usually the end of the season comes with wet areas, bare spots on the trails and less than desirable overall conditions but we always “push through” and keep riding until the end! Today felt more like the end of February than the last day that the trails are officially open!
What a great season this was! A HUGE thank you to all of the private land owners, Keweenaw Snowmobile Club, groomer operators, service industry employees, lodging establishments, restaurants, bars and ALL businesses that make riding Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula a favorite destination for so many riders! #keweenaw #snowphotosI have to say that today was probably THE hardest “official” ending to a season I have ever personally experienced!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports - March 31st is here and this is the last official day of the 2021/22 season. Trails running through private land will be closed after today. Trails running on state land do not close. Within the KSC trail system that is trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock and trail 3 running south of Houghton that do not close to snowmobile traffic. These trails are open to ORV traffic.
Our snow “storm” sure didn’t pan out…. Keweenaw County only recorded 4.5 inches of fresh snowfall and a total of 305.5 inches for the season so far. There is definitely not a lack of snow though for those of us out enjoying the trails today!
Reid Berman has been up riding Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula for the past week and half 😳 and shared these photos from this morning. Reid said, “It’s pretty good out here, a few bumps, but they are minor. It has been good riding!”

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA - TRAIL REPORT March 31, 2022
LAST DAY OF OFFICIAL SEASON!
Plenty of snow to ride the main trails with a few more inches of fresh wet snow overnight after a day of rain and sleet. As of right now we are getting a rain/snow mix with conditions not allowing grooming, too wet and snow will not process. Main Trail conditions are fair to good with a few water holes. Last groom was this past Sunday grooming Trail 8 from 7 miles North of Shingleton West to Trail 7 North up to Trail 418. There is very dirty, gravely snow along roadways near towns. Trail 7 South toward Buckhorn has bare section in the open areas. We will be watching temperatures and snow conditions closely to see if we can get a groom in tonight. A majority of our Trail System is on State and Federal Land and still rideable after today, March 31, just note that Trails will begin to be shared with ORV’s. Ride to the Right, watch for groomers and Stay Tuned for updates!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western UP Trail Reports - As of April 1st the trails will be open to all traffic. That includes all SxS, Orv's, Trucks, jeeps, and anything else with a motor. So if your planning on riding this weekend they are much slower and will be tearing up the snow. We ask that everyone stay off the trails when the snow has melted until the trails harden up.
Also I've been informed that there are a couple groups planing SxS rides this weekend so be careful.

If you've never rode south of Houghton you need to make plans next year. From Twin lakes take trail 13 to Greenland then take Trail 12 to Ontanogan. You have to stop in Stubbs Museum Bar and tell Jen that Stretch sent ya. Coming out of Ontonagon on trail 137 towards Rockland. Take a left at the T and you'll be on trail 13. Last catch trail 3 at Mass City and go north back to Twin lakes. It's right at a 100 mile loop that's always a fun ride.

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports - W🤩W! Another beautiful spring riding day!!
Mike Aschliman is up for yet ANOTHER trip this season and shared some amazing photos!
Mike said, “Beautiful spring day 🙂 nothing but smiles!”
Please note that grooming operations ended last night. We have had well below freezing temps and low traffic today, allowing trails to stay in good condition. There is a “storm”moving in to the area starting late tomorrow night in which the form of precipitation could vary greatly from sleet, rain and/or snow. (A lot like the storm we received last week that started out as rain/sleet and then changed over to 16plus inches of snow.)
Trails that run through private property (trails north of Calumet) close at the end of the day, March 31st. Trails on state land such as trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock and trail 3 south of Houghton do not close. The gates to cross the bridge from Hancock to Houghton are scheduled to be closed April 1st also.
Thanks for sharing Mike! Enjoy your day tomorrow! ... #keweenaw #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

There is very dirty, gravely snow along roadways near towns. Trail 7 South toward Buckhorn has bare section in the open areas. The Bully ran for 7 miles North of Shingleton yesterday with fair to good results. Operator Keith reported a few small water holes and gravel patches in open areas closer to Shingleton but overall pretty good. So Trail 443 along airport Rd and McCloud grade Roads are decent. But that 6 mile section from McCloud Rd to trail 88 has nasty hard moguls at almost every inside corner. There's plenty of snow, I only seen 2 bare spots. Again with this cold weather, expect hard rough trail condition. It's still nice out there.

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports - It’s officially the last Saturday of the 2021/22 season! Groomer Operators were out last night and trails should be in good condition!
Brent Mason shared these photos from yesterday and said, “Our day started in Calumet and headed to Vansville Bar for gas. With the temps already 39 degrees and sunny the trails were really soft and starting to whoop out but that's to be expected with the warm temps. We then headed to Copper Harbor and the trails held up remarkably well for how warm and soft the snow was. We then headed back to Vansville for gas again and then to the Fitz for dinner in Eagle River. Our meal was absolutely amazing at the Fitz . We left around dark and road to Eagle Harbor and that trail was a little whooped up but overall really good shape. Trails were already starting to firm back up. We then got back on trail 3 headed back towards Calumet and Trail 3 was remarkably really nice with the amount of traffic that was on it today. We had the wonderful pleasure of coming across one of the awesome Keweenaw Snowmobile Club groomer operators that gave us a sweet smooth ride back to Calumet. Thank you Keweenaw snowmobile club!🤟
I think tomorrow the trails are going to be absolutely awesome with the cooler temps coming in.”
Sounds like an awesome day, Brent! Thank you so much for sharing! Agreed that trails should be even better today with the colder temps and grooming operations last night!
Note:
Trail 122, 124 are closed for the remainder of the season
Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and Trail 120/121 Freda Loop are closed
The trail spur to High Rock Bay is very rough - not recommended
Trail 130 was not groomed last night and was pretty whooped up yesterday
All other trails were groomed from Toivola to Copper Harbor with the exception of across the Mountain.
Vansville Bar is not allowing staging in the lot .. #keweenaw #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less
Thanks for all the work keeping the trails in great shape!!! We had a great time up there.
