Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 2/29 8 pm update-
What a day around here! If you’re not already here or plan to be here early tomorrow, I’m sorry to say that the trails will likely start to fall apart quickly with the coming warm up. Coming out of the Soo on trail 8 is not good. Thin and rocky as we didn’t get the snow that Brimley/Bay Mills/Raco/Strongs/Paradise did. If you’re in the Soo, your best bet would be to trailer. The forest service roads out there have a ton of snow and will hold up longer than the trails.
We were able to groom most of 889 and all of 8 from Brimley to Ranger rd, and part of 480. I have a report that the gate on 472 at Johnson rd is locked. I have no idea why but I’ll try to find out. We cleared a ton of fallen trees today. Big thanks to Groomer Warren and I believe his helper was Scott. There is still a big one on the straight part of 889 between 8 and plantation rd, but it’s easy to get around it. There are some big humps from snowdrifts there too so use caution! Groomer Raco Dave is heading out to smooth those out now. Other than that part, 889 is good to excellent as of this evening! And 8 from a mile west of Brimley to Raco is also excellent!
We also hosted some of the volunteers from other clubs that are in town for the MISORVA groomer workshop for a hot dog lunch at our groomer barn. Great to have the opportunity to meet like minded volunteers!
I spent my morning clearing trees and then got a 112 mile ride in. Had a great lunch and warmed up at The Cozy Inn in Brimley. Stop in and support them and enjoy the “cozy” atmosphere!
Get it while you can! Bring a saw if you want to hit fire roads. Still some trees down on those.
Ride safe!!! #soo #snowphotos

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> We have 2 groomers headed from Newberry to Holland Lake Staggimg area. North if town got somewhere around 8 ton10 inches. Its hard to tell because we had alot of blowing and drifting due to the high winds. If your venturing out conditions are like very early season. Take it easy and watch for down branches. Looking at the 10 day forcast this snow isnt going to last to long. Take advantage of it while you can. All of the local businesses really need your support. #newberry #snowphotosWe have 2 groomers headed from Newberry to Holland Lake Staggimg area. North if town got somewhere around 8 ton10 inches. SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 2/22-
I don’t have much to say today since we are obviously not out grooming. Turbo said there were a bunch of trailers at Bay Mills, and he saw 10 sleds at The Cozy Inn. Happy to see folks are out enjoying what’s left and supporting the local establishments! If you’re out there, please feel free to comment what you’re seeing. I hope the tips for the forest service road areas were helpful
Cold and a tiny bit of snow tomorrow, but not enough to make any real difference.
I’ll update if there’s anything exciting to share.
Be safe if you’re out riding!
Updating this post with a photo of trail 8 in the Soo from 6 pm tonight. It’s not pretty.. #soo #snowphotos2/22-

Decent trails towards Grand Marais, some areas as good as can be and some areas you have to dodge dirt spots, but all in all better to be out than on the couch. We put in 150 mile from Pine stump north then west on 9

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> I went for a quick ride to see what things are like. This mirrors my post from a couple weeks ago with the previous warm up
Along cr407 to the river the trail is shot but you can ride between the road and trail. Watch for hazards
Trail 8 has spots where it’s good and it has spots that are bare for several hundred feet and you have to skirt the edge. It’s the worst in the clear cuts
The seasonal roads and fire lanes are good still.
It’s spring riding conditions that are way early this year. You need to trailer up to get into the snow. Towns will be bad to terrible to access.
If you want to do a ton of miles stay home. As I’ve been telling everyone if you want to ride some and not afraid to take the seasonal roads etc you can do 75 to 100 miles and have some fun. Ride the trails long enough to get off of them
The pictures are from today they start from leaving pine stump and working my way up to trail 8 west and then looping back on seasonal roads and fire lanes
Trail 9 towards wolf inn will be similar. Some crap and some that’s not so bad.
In the clear cuts are where things are the worst. I’m sure the burned out area towards paradise is terrrible
Chic from the hotdog stand stopped with a group yesterday. She had good riding coming across on the seasonal roads etc. check out her page
It’s supposed to be cold this weekend with a chance of 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow. Boy would the few inches of snow be a blessing at this point. We just need to get past the warm day today let’s hope some clouds roll in
For most riders this could be the end if we don’t get some March storms. Typically we get some good storms in March so let’s hope
Go for a ride and if you get bored jump in the truck and visit all your favorite places. Make sure to visit the local businesses while your up they’d love to see you
I’m all booked up but feel free to trailer up here. There’s also the holland lake lot up the road a couple miles.. #newberry #snowphotos
