Let us know what you're seeing today for snowfall totals! Try and include your best estimate for the duration of the snow and at what time the snow as measured, how much snow has fallen, and your approximate location in relation to the nearest city/town. Thank you in advance for your help, it's your reports that help provide ground truth to what is actually happening in your backyard!
Here are some tips when it comes to measuring snow! Always try to measure on a flat, hard surface such as a deck, driveway etc. Take multiple measurements to get a good estimate, and remember to avoid measuring snow within snow drifts! #906wx ... See MoreSee Less

⚠️ Use caution if out traveling today - widespread snow continues to fill in this morning, expect additional moderate to occasionally heavy snow through at least mid-day. As widespread snow winds down later this afternoon, lake-effect snow moves into the northwest and north wind snow belts as we progress through the evening and overnight hours.
There is some uncertainty across southwest Upper Michigan as to where the most robust lake-effect snow will develop, but locations around the Porcupine Mountains into Ironwood could pick up a foot of snow. ... See MoreSee Less

Meredith, 44.118481, -84.584620, Where I usually measure, on a huge tree stump, but in an area that catches the wind where some was probably blown away, it was 3.43". In a wide open area that was cleared late yesterday, without drifts, and measured in various places, it was right at 5.79" (use millimeters to measure). I have no exact measurement for the very heavy snowfall starting at 9:55 AM for about 20 minutes, at least 1/2", probably closer to 3/4". For that, I used my decorative snow gauge shown here to guesstimate the heavy snowfall stated above. There has been no snow cleared there since the snow started accumulating after the last total thaw, Still snowing light snow at this time.
From Julie: 3 inches (near as I can tell with the drifting) in Central Lake by 9am, and an inch and a half of that fell between 7:30am and 9am. Still snowing, but not as heavily now.
I'ld rather be warned for a foot of snow and only get 4 inches rather than be warned for 4 inches of snow and get a foot of snow. You all don't need to be apologizing to the public for an unpredictable Science.
Remember as a kid that it wasn't uncommon to get 6 to 12 inches of snow almost every day, that was back in the 1970's through early 1980's. Don't really see the snow like we used to see, and I grew up in Gaylord, considered the snowmelt region in northern lower peninsula of Michigan
We live in a very tough region to predict. No worries! I’d much rather have a heads-up to prepare just in case.

Beginning tonight, we expect the first round of snow to move into the Upper Peninsula. This snow will move west to east through the evening and into tomorrow. Widespread 4-8 inches will be possible with higher amounts possible close to Lake Michigan, the Bay of Green Bay and in the Keweenaw. The second round starts tomorrow afternoon/evening, when the snow transitions to lake effect for the northwest wind snow belts. Snow will be heavy at times, especially in Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties. #906wx ... See MoreSee Less

Friday January 17th, 2020 - 6:42 am
Widespread snow will move in tonight from the southwest as a low pressure system lifts north from the Plains. Additional moisture from Lake Michigan and Lake Superior may provide enhanced totals along the Lake Michigan shoreline and across the Keweenaw. As the low pressure moves east of the area, the lake-effect machine will crank up and provide an additional round of accumulating snow across the NW wind snow belts through Sunday afternoon. #906wx ...
