As a forester, I saw a large white pine blown to pieces no larger than a fence post. Makes you realize the energy in a bolt of lightening.
We had that happen near our cottage. If anyone had been close to it, they would have been skewered. In the days of wooden ships, most casualties were from splinters.
Happened to a tree when I was a kid. Split it from to to bottom perfect for firewood
Interesting how this happens.

The season started off awesome, then really flopped mid January on in the Twin Lakes area.
Glad the Sault didn’t get that amount if snow. The ice storm we had was enough for me. Broken hip on that one.

No frost fairy this morning on Tee lake, Lewiston 😁
My weather app showed that Tower was at 33. I went out to the garden just prior to sunrise to spray down the flowers, but only a trickle came out of my sprayer. There was an ice chunk blocking the water. There definitely was a frost covering the lower areas. Cleared ice & sprayed everything down.
It seems Houghton Lake has disappeared from your listings....for those who were wondering, On the Southwest Shore of Houghton Lake it got down to 33.1 degrees at 5:07 AM this morning.
2 miles NNE of Fife Lake lowest I saw at 5:55 am was 33.5, but my thermo is not out in the open. We had widespread frost though, I was out keeping the plants alive running sprinklers......
I'm in Gaylord, just east of Otsego lake. My weather station said 28 degrees around 5am.
Apparently these aren't even close to record lows?
35 degrees on Tower Rd by Thumb Lake.
Around 30 west of Interlochen. Off to buy more tomato plants.
