SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> Took a walk over to trail 8 where it crosses near my house in the Soo, as you come in from the west. As you can see, dirt is starting to show where the sun shines and where sleds hammer on it after the stop sign. I’m not sharing this to tell you to ride or not to ride, that’s your call. Only sharing so you can see what it looks like for yourself. A very small sampling of a much larger trail system. Some areas will be wet, some thinner than this, some with more than this... #soo #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> For those wanting to know, this is in no way what all of your trails look like, but a quick snap of trail 8 at 5:30 pm today (12/1) in the Soo where it runs near my house. Gates are open here, and also saw the gate on 49 near Walmart is open. There ARE wet areas. If you choose to ride, ride safely, watch for icy spots, debris, and water holes. Early season conditions, as they say.
Think snow! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less
Thanks for the update 😀
Thanks for posting.
Not worth riding the soo currently, huge mud holes and the snow is thin. Extended forecast is bad too.
Let the base build Up before tearing it up!
Ride em if ya got em!

TRAVERSE CITY AREA UPDATE via Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club >> We have been out on the trails the past two days finishing up the signage and they are now complete. Thanks to Eric, David, Dave, John, Bob, Steve and Jeff for volunteering their time to get this done. Now all we need is cold weather and snow. We receive 9 inches earlier this week. However, today we had sunshine and 46 degree temps and lost the majority of the snow. It's time to do those dances. Hopefully we'll have a great year! #traversecity #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less
I love seeing the posts where you are out pregrooming/dirt grooming the trails. Flat trails before the snow definitely makes a huge difference.
Thank you!!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club >> 2024 Season Opening Notes:
We need 1-3’ of snow depending on the trail and what lies beneath that snow- rock, sand, water/mud. Do those snow dances! We’re packed up and ready for when there is adequate snow!
Portage Lake Lift Bridge Opening will be weather dependent AND we await the return of the Ranger III from safety inspections in Duluth. There can be no crossing without the mat in place - safety, equipment, and bridge grates are among the reasons.
Trail 133 - Closed until snow levels are high enough, water holes are frozen, and property owners approve due to hunting.
Logging - We have active logging this year at the start of the season impacting Trail 124 and Trail 3 between Phoenix and Delaware finishing no later than 12/22. You can use trail 130 to bypass the trail 3 logging. Trail 122 will get you into Gay.
Grooming will begin when we have enough snow and the traffic dictates. Expect early season conditions with possible wet spots, tree limbs, and possibly gates closed if groomers haven’t been out yet.
HUGE news as well, Trail 3 was officially opened yesterday from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and will be available for use for the first time since the Fathers Day Flood of 2018.
Keep an eye out for updates!
Thanks,

Is trail 15 going north out of Baraga going to be opened this year? I read they are replacing a bridge. We have a trip planned for that area in February
I assume the state will partial refund our stickers. If the state sells us access to trails from certain dates then the person that paid should be the one to decide to use them or not.

Just got here to the cabin, which is within eyesight of this hotel. The snow is shrunk down to about 3-4 inches, trails are surprisingly covered even at road crossings. Roads are bare. don’t know that trails will ride well / hold up well considering this is the first snow. I personally wouldn’t pay for a hotel but if you have a place here poking around for a few miles might be fun.

Why is this hotel saying there is only a few inches, and the gas station guy said there's 2-3 inches and they haven't gotten that much? Is anyone actually there and can confirm

That will be toast this weekend. But hell yes bring on more snow and cold temp!! Good start to the season
Thursday is going to kill it before the trails even open.

If it stays and the idiots stay of the trails that’s a good start to a base.
