I was wondering what kind of numbers of snowmobilers pass through the Wexford county trail systems on a given weekend?
  1.
if your smart u wont ride the loop its just a ticket fest my friend got a ticket for rollen though a stop sign .they were giving them out every 5 min 135 00 a wack !the better ridin is over by kalva and above they get to much traffic on the weekend the trails are better when u get out of that inerloop. irons trails are 2 narrow .cadillac is 2 buzy 2 bad they dont have more trails 2 support the traffic. its great before jan then it gets so buzy u dont want 2 go around a turn to fast because someone is allways pushin your side wouldnt take kids on weekend. wish they would spend my thirty five on new trails this year.cadillac snow clubs do a great job they just get 2 much traffic . my hats off 2 the clubs in that area. remember when trail tags were 10 bucks ? they just keep going after us more and more giving tickets for rollin though stop signs !!!!!! on snowmobiles not runin them rollin a 4 way stop in the middle of a field u could see 100 yards all ways. glad i wasnt the first though the cop was on the other side waving my friend over he did come 2 a complete stop what a scaaaaam.cant wait till it snows .gmom said they got 1 inch in caddy last night .its comin folks hope your ready .i cant wait untill i can bust though that first field ,snow flying everywere happy trails 2 u G

gmom said there callin for snow this week like 2 get a early dec ride in this year !!!!! MY friend wants 2 go 2 gaylord next weekend hope there is snow up there ? I like to ride the off trail in caddy in dec theres so much cool state & fed land there nice 2 hit it before the bumps get there. the last 2 winters have been great got 4000 miles on my 08 that i got in jan of 08 the new skidoos are the bomb!!!!!! I was a polaris fan for along time got sick of workin on them this new 600 renagade is the sweetest sled out there even better than the 800 with the horespower 2 pounds it pulls the skis with all stock parts love fuel injection there is nothing thats close 2 the 600 skidoos i have tried them all .my buddy bought 09 etec not much diff butt it gets even better gas milage than mine 20 mpg +. my 600 06 palaris was lucky 2 get 12 mpg they dont use much oil also what a diff on your wallet.the only bad part is in deep snow the front a arms dig in and pull u around they have these plastic bolt on wings that i put on that helped me float on deep powder happy trails 2 u G

Only about 2" of snow here in the mid section of the White Pine. Much more in lake effect areas. They are calling for a storm on Wednesday for the Cadillac Area. Noscat, we are planning some overnight tours from the door this year, staying at locations like Wolf Lake and Cadillac, providing we have good snow here. Patrick, we appreciate all you do to provide us with an information board on trail conditions for free. Some of us know more about sleds than computers and need to keep it simple! Let it snow! WD

    Thanks, WD, for the appreciation...

Just created a facebook page for Cadillac Snowmobiling. It is at: Cadillac Trails

We should be able to use the facebook page as a good message board / interactive resource - that is if you are on facebook.

I will also be setting up some snowmobile resources using twitter. Will have trail reports at http://www.twitter.com/TrailReport

Also will probably migrate this board over to a new one here:

White Pine Trail at Stanwood/Big Rapids. We rode to the Sawmill for a snack yesterday. Some rocks but enough to ride. I think the trail needs more snow, or colder temps to handle alot of traffic. There is about 6" of snow on Thursday with more in the forecast.

skidoo chill.....Cadillac is just up the White Pine Trail about 40-50 miles north. Evart is on the Pere Marquette trails that runs east/west between Clare and Baldwin. The junction of the trails is at Reed City where there is a warming building with Rest rooms. Evart is about 10-15 miles east of the junction at Reed City. A good loop if you get a map or find the map on these web pages is to head west at Reed City to Baldwin, continue north on the Baldwin system to the Cadillac trail system. Find your way back to the White Pine trail, then south back to Big Rapids. There is enough snow to do this trip this weekend.

    FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
    Monday: 7:15 p.m.–December 14, 2009

Our Trail Coordinator has requested I pass along a WARNING alerting everyone the ice on ALL lakes is not safe for snowmobiles yet!!!!! He indicated a snowmobile rode all along the south/east side of Lake Cadillac sometime today. There are not any fisherman and/or shanties on the lake yet, let alone sleds. There is some open water still in the middle of the lake. We’ve had some warm weather the last couple of days and it has slowed down the ice making process. It was raining for a bit today.

Trail conditions are marginal at best in some areas especially in the open areas where the sun can get to the trail. We’re still grooming when temperatures are below freezing. No new snow to report today. Can’t see the snow gauge tonight but it is shrinking because of the warmer weather and rain. When I looked this morning it was at 11 inches.,
  14.
Cadillac / Baldwin Area Trail Report - Wolf Lake Motel and Resort - 12/15

Hi Everyone, we did have a little warm up on 12-14-09, but it's 19 degrees now and snowing. They are forecasting LES snow right on through the weekend with 4" to 8" forecasted for today and tonight and more LES everyday and cold temps. (If you can believe a forecast). Just a heads up from the grooming coordinators, "because of the heavy snow last week and high wind this last weekend, there are some trees down in the trails, use extreme caution." The schedule is, if everything goes well, to have the trails cleared by Wednesday afternoon and all trails groomed again. Almost all the roads are snow covered so getting fuel or food isn't a problem and there is tons of snow in the woods and trails, but there is also tons of snow in the trees, so be careful.
  15.
    FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
    Wednesday: 10:15 a.m.–December 16, 2009

There’s about an inch of additional new snow on the ground since yesterday and below freezing temperatures forecasted for the next few days.

Noticed a few fisherman on Lake Cadillac last night but I still wouldn’t think about taking a sled out there just yet.

Groomers report the trails to be good in some areas and poor in others like in the curves and some areas where it is down to dirt. The thin base didn’t last long in those areas with the recent warm temperatures and heavy weekend traffic.

    Snow gauge total: 11.5 inches.

Cadillac / Baldwin Area Trail Report - Wolf Lake Motel and Resort - 01/26

Hi Everyone, We did get a little to whiten things back up last night and they are forecasting 2" to 4" today and tonight and Thursday a chance of "large accumulations" of LES snow possible then the temp is to fall down to the teens with LES snow the next 7. Around this neck of the woods, with LES snow, we may either get an inch or two or a foot or two, you just never know. But with any forecast I’ll believe it when I see it. I doubt that any grooming will continue until it gets colder and more snow. The way it sounds we should be back grooming by the middle of this week. (If the forecast is correct) One thing that is nice around here, we are in the middle of 6 different grooming clubs, (which we are members of 4), if one isn’t grooming, one of the other Clubs are grooming and we have maps right in the Office.

We are running a Bed and Sled Special. Get a modern well maintained single passenger Snowmobile from 10am until 6pm and one of our small single Motel Rooms, Sunday through Thursday for $230 tax included or get a modern well maintained two passenger Snowmobile from 10am until 6pm and one of our small single Motel Rooms, Sunday through Thursday for $260 tax included. Weather permitting.

Also stay two days and get the third free, Sunday through Thursday. No Fridays and Saturdays. You must mention at the time of the reservation and of course this special is dependent on availability and can not be combined with any other offer. Plus we are in the middle of one of the largest ORV trail systems in the state, so if the snow isn’t that great for snowmobiling, bring your ORV up and ride over 200 miles of ORV trails. Don’t worry winter isn’t over for snowmobiling, but a winter ORV ride can be a blast too. If you don’t have a snowmobile or yours is broken, no problem, WE HAVE ON-SITE SNOWMOBILE RENTALS right here at the Resort. There is good snow in the woods, so two tracken and seasonal roads are a blast right now. (Which there are tons of). 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm

Rooms and ON-SITE Snowmobile Rentals are available.

We are members of the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan, Baldwin Trailriders Snowmobile Club, Benzie/Manistee Snowbirds Snowmobile Club, Irons Area Tourist Association Snowmobile Club, Wellston Area Recreation and Tourist Bureau Snowmobile Club, Lake County ORV Club and the Michigan Snowmobile Association, which are the local grooming clubs. I can not thank these guys and gals enough, they do a lot of work for free, so we all can enjoy this sport. I would only think that if someone is complaining about a bumpy trail on Saturday afternoon, come to a couple club meetings and see just what these people do. They would never complain again. Thank you again.

Call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm. See ya soon on the trails.

    NEW SNOW: 1″-2″

A couple of inches of fresh snow has made everything white again. I am not giving a green light here until we get a couple of more inches. Snow is forecasted through the weekend with temps in the teens on Saturday.

The White Pine trail is the former Railroad track stretching from Rockford to Cadillac. Not a challenging trail, but great for families with many towns to visit along the way.

Specials & Events: Check out the rest rooms and fire pit at Reed City at the White Pine/Pere Marquette trail intersections! It’s the brick building on the trail.

Hi Everyone, I just got back from a 92 mile ride and most of the trails are in pretty fair condition, with the exception of a 5 mile section of trail 3 south of low Bridge to Laverne road, which was bad. Hi Everyone, I just got off the phone with the Irons Grooming Corridinator and she said the groomers are out and all trails will be done by tomorrow. Cold temps and LES snow is a great combo for making smooth trails. CAUTION THE TRAILS ARE ICY. Yesterday I got back from a 92 mile ride and most of the trails are in pretty fair condition, with the exception of a 5 mile section of trail 3 south of low Bridge to Laverne road, which was bad. More LES snow is forecasted for the next 7 days with cold temps to continue. Around this neck of the woods, with LES snow, we may either get an inch or two or a foot or two, you just never know. Hey, can anyone tell me if the Winter Fest is still going on next weekend? Heard that it might be cancelled. I read that they put a fee on the trail maps too, is that true and how much?
  21.
    FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
    Saturday evening–January 30, 2010

Three groomers were out today and report the trails are in suprisingly good shape…most are about an 8 out of 10. The Boon groomer did Trail 37 south, while the 8920 groomed Trails 6, 376, 677, 687, 638 and the 7920 groomed Trail 35 east from Fairchild (Nigger) Creek to Hobart then Trail 5 North to McGuires then Trail 5 south to LeRoy. There is an ice base on all trails and light snow covering throughout the entire system. The absence of snirt is quite amazing. It is frozen solid and the trails are white. There are a few “chatter bumps” in some places the groomers can’t get out. Fortunately they aren’t deep and they aren’t throughout the entire system.

    Snow gauge*: 3 inches

I was hoping one of you could give me some advice. We have a group of riders coming from Irons and a group of riders coming from Kalkaska. Where would be a good spot to meet for lunch? I was thinking somewhere around Mesick or North, but am not sure where the trails go once you go accross 115. If there is a better spot, please let me know. We are hoping to connect for lunch on the Saturday 5th. Thanks in advance.

The trails remain in great shape and it looks like they could remain that way throughout the week if our weather pattern stays the course. Temperatures remain below freezing and the snow machine spits out snow every now and then but not great accumulation is forecasted. At least three groomers are out every day with some groomers doing two routes each day.

Sure hope you are headed this way for the North American Snow Festival scheduled to start Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with Opening Ceremonies at the Armory immediately followed by the Chili Cook-Off. For more details about the event check out the NASF link.

The trails will be busy this weekend so keep safety and fun foremost on your mind as you enjoy this special weekend in the Cadillac area.

I have lived in Cadillac, and near the Mis-Kal trail between Lake City and Kalkaska. I am not aware of a connecting trail, but would like to see this, especially since the Mis-Kal connects to Mackinaw.
You would need to map out secondary (dirt) roads between Mesick and the snowmobile bridge over the Manistee river just north of Manton. There is another bridge over the Manistee south of Kingsley. From Cadillac, you can map out dirt roads past Meawataka (spelling?), heading north to Manton. Someone living in Manton may be able to answer this better. I hope this helps. WD

    FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
    Thursday–February 4, 2010

All 4 of the groomers are running their regular and extra routes Thursday through Sunday to keep the trails in as good as shape as possible. The trails remain at about a 8 on a scale of 1-10. The RR grades have some bare spots (wind blew the snow off) but they are short and only a few of them. The tight, twisty sections in the woods are thin but snow covered. The wide open forest and seasonal roads are smooth, snow covered ice and flat. ALL trails are very rideable and will not damage the sleds. Use extreme caution this weekend due to all of the ice (there were at least 3 accidents last weekend) and all of families and large groups that will be on the trails Friday-Sunday.

The route from Lake Mitchell’s west end to Pole Road (Hemlock Park) is CLOSED. The suggested routes out of the Cadillac "West" area is to follow the trail along M-115 south east to 44Rd and then the White Pine Trail south, OR go west along M-55, (follow the trail signs), cross M-55 at the Gas Station and follow the signs along Pole Road and 27 Rd to the start of the groomed trail. The 2nd route is through a residential area: Go Slow and RESPECT PRIVATE PROPERTY.
